In Alabama, your employees must pass Board exams or practical checks for the jobs they do. A course certificate alone does not give them the endorsement. Alabama rule 530-X-2-.11(1)–(5).
The rule does not name PEP or CETP as a replacement for the Alabama LP Gas Board's process. Employee competency rule.
What the rule says
- Each worker gets an Employee Competency Card from the Board. It lists the jobs the worker has passed. 530-X-2-.11(1).
- A worker can do a job before the endorsement only with active supervision. The supervisor must be present and must be qualified for that job. 530-X-2-.11(1).
- A written exam needs a score of 70 percent or higher. Some jobs, such as cylinder and motor fuel dispensing, also have a practical evaluation. 530-X-2-.11(3) and (5).
- A worker who changes jobs can keep the endorsements if the new employer is a Board permit holder and the move happens within three years. 530-X-2-.11(4).
What this means for you
Check each driver's and tech's card before you put them on a route. Know who can supervise a new hire. Keep the card and the course record in the same file.
Need training for your crew?
We don't run classes. Use the trainers on our Recommended Propane Safety Experts page and contact them directly.
Keep the paper trail
An inspector or insurer will ask to see your records. Our Policies & Procedures manual puts your training policy and written procedures in one place. The Propane Safety App/Tank Spotter keeps each employee's training dates and flags renewals. The Duty to Warn program covers your customer safety notices.
