Colorado names the PERC CETP courses, or their PEP equivalents, for delivery, service and installation workers. 7 CCR 1101-15, sections 4-2 through 4-4.
What the rule says
- Delivery workers need these CETP courses, or the PEP equivalents: Basic Principles and Practices, Bobtail Delivery Operations and Basic Plant Operations. Section 4-3.
- Delivery workers also must know how to fill an ASME container and when a leak check is needed. They must know how to do and record one, and the emergency steps in your fire safety analysis. Section 4-3.
- Service and installation workers need three CETP courses, or the PEP equivalents. They are Basic Principles and Practices, Designing and Installing Exterior Vapor Distribution Systems, and Placing Vapor Distribution Systems and Appliances into Operation. Section 4-4.
- All of this training must be done within one year of starting the job duties. Sections 4-3 and 4-4.
- You keep training records and check that each worker is competent. Training comes around again at least every three years. Section 4-1.
The Colorado Division of Oil and Public Safety runs these rules. The PEP wording applies to the job types the rule lists. Do not assume it works the same in other states.
What this means for you
When PERC swaps a CETP course for a PEP one, save a note that matches old to new for each job. Keep the one-year clock in your new-hire checklist.
Need training for your crew?
We don't run classes. Use the trainers on our Recommended Propane Safety Experts page and contact them directly.
Keep the paper trail
An inspector or insurer will ask to see your records. Our Policies & Procedures manual puts your training policy and written procedures in one place. The Propane Safety App/Tank Spotter keeps each employee's training dates and flags renewals. The Duty to Warn program covers your customer safety notices.
