Missouri training programs must be based on a nationally recognized program (or equal). The Missouri Propane Safety Commission must approve them. The rule changed July 30, 2026. 2 CSR 90-10.012(5).
The current text does not name CETP. It does not auto-approve every PEP course either. Use the Commission's approval process. Current curriculum and approval criteria.
What the rule says
- Everyone who handles LP-gas, or services LP-gas equipment, finishes an initial training program that includes a written exam. 90-10.012(4).
- Training comes again at least every three years. New hires are trained by the employer until an approved program is available. 90-10.012(4)(A).
- An approved program uses a Commission-approved instructor and includes hands-on training or a skills assessment. 90-10.012(5).
- The program's exam needs a passing score of at least 70 percent and is graded by a third party. 90-10.012(5).
- Programs get approved first, then re-reviewed at least every two years or when they change. 90-10.012(5).
- Some workers can skip this. Their only propane job is filling vehicles with autogas, and the system's maker or installer trained them. 90-10.012(4)(B).
What this means for you
When you switch courses, keep the approval letter with the version that was taught. Compare the instructor, the hands-on part and who grades the exam before you move your schedule to a new program.
Need training for your crew?
We don't run classes. Use the trainers on our Recommended Propane Safety Experts page and contact them directly.
Keep the paper trail
An inspector or insurer will ask to see your records. Our Policies & Procedures manual puts your training policy and written procedures in one place. The Propane Safety App/Tank Spotter keeps each employee's training dates and flags renewals. It does not give Commission approval. The Duty to Warn program covers your customer safety notices.
