Nevada makes each worker pass a Board exam for a certificate of competency. The Board can waive the exam if the worker holds an outside certification it finds substantially similar. NAC 590.320.
The rule does not name PEP or CETP as automatically accepted. Ask the Nevada Board for the Regulation of Liquefied Petroleum Gas about the exact certification. Outside-certification review.
What the rule says
- Each applicant takes an oral or written exam, or both. NAC 590.320(1).
- The Board keeps a list of outside certifications that qualify. If yours is not on it, you can ask the Board to review it. NAC 590.320(4).
- Certificate types are named for the work, such as LEGAL, PIPING, INSTALL, APPLIANCE and VENTING. NAC 590.311.
- A certificate lasts one year and expires on the last day of the month it was issued. NAC 590.350.
- To renew, the holder does one of three things. Pass the exam again, complete at least 8 continuing education units from a Board-approved course, or show continuous employment in the certified area. NAC 590.360.
What this means for you
Ask each employee which renewal route they plan to use, and collect the proof early. A good course may still need Board review before it counts for a certificate or a renewal.
Need training for your crew?
We don't run classes. Use the trainers on our Recommended Propane Safety Experts page and contact them directly.
Keep the paper trail
An inspector or insurer will ask to see your records. Our Policies & Procedures manual puts your training policy and written procedures in one place. The Propane Safety App/Tank Spotter keeps each employee's training dates and flags renewals. The Duty to Warn program covers your customer safety notices.
