New Jersey names CETP certification for the employees of licensed LP-gas marketers who handle LP-gas. The rule sets deadlines and ties the parts to the job. N.J.A.C. 5:18-10.3.
If a CETP part is renumbered or renamed, the rule says to use the part with the same content. Confirm that match with the Department of Community Affairs before you rely on a PEP course in its place. 5:18-10.3(a)7.
What the rule says
- Book One, Basic Principles and Practices, is due within three months of the hire date. 5:18-10.3(a)1.
- The job-related parts are due within six months of hire. Delivery workers take parts 2.1 and 2.2. Installers take part 4.3. 5:18-10.3(a)2–4.
- Records: the licensed marketer keeps the CETP proof of tests and practical work for each employee. Records must be ready for the Division on request. 5:18-10.3(a)5 and (c).
- Service work has its own Propane Service Certification. Employees need it before they start that work. 5:18-10.3(b).
What this means for you
Put both dates on your new-hire checklist: three months and six months. When a course changes, ask for the course-to-part match in writing and file it with the tests and practical sign-offs.
Need training for your crew?
We don't run classes. Use the trainers on our Recommended Propane Safety Experts page and contact them directly.
Keep the paper trail
New Jersey puts the record on you. Our Policies & Procedures manual puts your training policy and written procedures in one place. The Propane Safety App/Tank Spotter keeps each employee's training dates and flags renewals. The Duty to Warn program covers your customer safety notices.
