What Should a Propane Company's Policies and Procedures Manual Cover in Georgia?

Your Georgia manual should help staff check training and site approvals before assigning work. The state rules cover job-related certification, employer files and installation review. Give each record a clear place in the office file. Start with rules .04 through .07.

Build the employee file around the assigned function

Georgia uses CETP or an approved equivalent for the employee's job functions. A new hire has up to 12 months to gain the right certification. Before then, the person may do only duties for which they are properly trained. Six hours of continuing education are required in each three-year period. Check the training against the task.

People with certification must carry the required wallet card. Employers must keep the listed employee certification details. Name who collects each record. Assign who checks its status and finds it for an inspector. That office workflow is your choice.

Separate construction review from the final inspection

Is the new tank setup over 4,000 gallons of water in total? If so, complete the state plan process before work starts. Vehicle-fuel sites within 50 feet of other fuel dispensing have an added review trigger. Keep approved plans at the job site. Paper and electronic copies are allowed. Keep the approval and drawing version in the project file.

Covered commercial cylinder-filling sites at or below 4,000 gallons have a final inspection. That route replaces plan filing. Exchange cage inspections have their own provisions. Check the job's category. Special Hazards is the state entry point for these approvals.

Keep the adopted editions and state additions together

The state chapter adopts three standards with amendments. They are NFPA 54–2024, NFPA 58–2024 and NFPA 59–2024. Rule .07 covers dispensing-site training records and container details. It also covers public access to emergency contacts at covered storage and cylinder sites. Index those records by site.

All fires involving covered vehicles or equipment must be reported. So must accidents involving them that may create a public hazard. Tell the state as soon as possible, no later than eight hours. Send a written report within 72 hours. Assign who makes those reports in your incident procedure.

Review federal transport and workplace duties for your own work. For the full product scope, read the national manual page. Review transport security on the Georgia plan page.

Questions before a Georgia job is released

Can staff use training other than CETP? Rule .04 allows an equivalent approved under state rules. A course is not approved merely because it covers propane.

Where do approved drawings stay during the build? Keep them at the job site. Georgia allows a paper or electronic copy.

Does a 4,000-gallon commercial filling site avoid inspection? Rule .05 gives covered sites at or below that capacity a final-inspection route. It replaces plan filing for that category.

Which NFPA 54 edition does Georgia adopt? The chapter adopts the 2024 edition, with state changes. It lists 2024 for the other two standards too.
